Kedarnath
Kedarnath is one of the 12 Shiva’s Jyotirlinga in India and it is located on the banks of River Mandakini, in Garhwal range of Rudraprayag district in the state of Uttarakhand. The temple is nearly 1200 years old and situated at a height of 3583meter above the seal level.
Kedarnath is one of the four abodes of Char Dam Yatra in Uttarakhand. It is not directly accessible by road and the last place near Kedarnath by road is Gauri Kund from where one has to take a trek of 17 km to reach the Temple or can take Palkies & Ponies available at the starting point of the trek in Gauri Kund or one can travel by Helicopter to reach Kedarnath Temple.
The Best time to visit Kedarnath Temple Gate opens in Summers from the date of Akshaya Tritiya usually falls in April / May month and closes after the 02 days from Diwali on Bhai Dooj in the month of October /November and its deity is Shifted to Ukhimath where its worship continues during next six months of winter.
Jolly Grant Airport Dehradun is 222 Kms. from Kedarnath. One can take a prebook Vehicle / Taxi from the airport and reach Guptkashi for a night stay and next day reach at Gauri Kund (the Starting Point of Kedarnath Trek), From here one can reach temple by trekking of 17kms. If you want to travel by helicopter then you have to go to Sahastradhara Helipad in Dehradun. Helicopter will directly take you near to the Kedarnath Temple.
Rishikesh is 205 kms. From Kedarnath. You can book a Taxi or Take a Bus From Rishikesh to reach Guptkashi for a night stay and next day reach at Gauri Kund (the Starting Point of Kedarnath Trek), From here one can reach temple by trekking of 17kms. Rishikesh ISBT is just at the walking distance from Railway Station.
